Redundant entries in PubMed conditioned on year

Posted on Updated on

So I was surprised to find that my PubMed counts did not add up when I queried over years. Here is an example:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=cutdb+AND+%222006%22[DP]

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=cutdb+AND+%222007%22[DP]

“CutDB: a proteolytic event database” is indexed for both the years 2006 and 2007. How is that possible? It turns out that the paper is e-published in 2006 and paper-published in 2007.
