Poul Thorsen: a new Milena Penkowa? II

Posted on

Yesterday (i.e., 13 April 2011 Danish time, 12 April 2011 American time) I blogged a bit about Poul Thorsen. Now today (i.e., 14 April 2011 Danish time, 13 April 2011 American time) the newest development is a Reuters message sent from Atlanta stating that Thorsen “has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Atlanta” and US authorities are seeking to extradite him from Denmark.

There has still been strangely little written about this case in Denmark, — and nothing about the new development.

In December 2010 science journalist Jens Ramskov wrote a bit about Poul Thorsen being co-author on the scientific article Parental infertility and cerebral palsy in children even though the University of Aarhus had declared:

Aarhus University will not be able to collaborate with Poul Thorsen in the future. To the extent that other parties collaborating with Aarhus University wish to draw on Poul Thorsen’s expertise, Aarhus University will only accept such collaboration if it has the purpose of securing data or protecting the interests of participating researchers and funding agencies”

Most of the information in Denmark is from a single article in Information by freelancer Sanne Maja Funch published in March 2010. Journalist Ulla Danielsen has also written about the lack of Danish media attention to the case which moneywise seems to be bigger than the Milena Penkowa case. Danielsen has written a few English articles to Age of Autism, — seemingly an anti-vaccine blog as far as I can determine.

Update: The Danish media now has begun to write about the case a bit: There is a lengthy article in ??rhus Stiftstidende:http://stiften.dk/aarhus/den-store-forfoererJens Ramskov from Ingeni??ren has a short article based on the Reuter message:http://ing.dk/artikel/118352-dansk-forsker-koebte-harley-davidson-for-amerikanske-forskningspenge?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=forskning

The age of autism is not an anti-vaccine blog. It’s a blog for parents of children with autism, many of whom believe vaccines were the cause of their child’s autism. In Denmark, 11-13 vaccines are given by the time a child is 5 years old, in the U.S., we give 36 vaccines in the same time period, more than triple the load. Many are concerned we are giving too many vaccines too soon. Supporting seatbelt usage does not make you anti-car. Best, JB Handley

@JB Handley,I am slightly skeptical on the figures you give. Do we have any references on the "11-13" and "36"?best Finn ??rup Nielsen

Good call on ‘Age of Autism’ being an anti-vaccination blog – it’s actually pretty much the premier anti-vaccination blog out there, regardless of their claims of being just about safer vaccinations (somehow, there seems to be no safe vaccinations in their opinion).

@Finn, re: 36 vaccineshttp://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/schedules/downloads/child/0-6yrs-schedule-bw.pdfHere is a link to the U.S. CDC Recommended vaccine schedule for 2011, only including birth through age 6 years. As you can see, JB Handley is correct about 36 vaccines, if you count the recommended annual flu vaccination (which requires 2 doses the first year and one each year thereafter). JB was being generous by counting combination vaccines as single shots. If you count the antigens in the combination vaccines separately, the number would be around 51. You must remember that most of the people like JB were not "anti-vaccine" until they dutifully had their babies vaccinated according to the above schedule and have ever since watched their children suffer terrible consequences. Here in the U.S. there has been an explosion not only of autism (1 in 110 overall, 1 in 70 for boys — those are old numbers, current estimate is 1 in 77 overall in Utah), but asthma, diabetes, food allergy, seizure disorders developmental delays and other chronic conditions. Over 50% of children have a chronic health condition, and 1 in 6 has a developmental delay. During the same time period the above vaccine schedule has exploded from one that was similar to yours in 1983 to what we have today, following enactment of a law in 1986 which gave legal immunity to the vaccine-makers. As vaccines have been added, the schedule as a whole has never been tested for its toxicity or its cumulative, long-term effects, or even for interference between so many injections creating proper immunity to the diseases they are supposed to prevent. There are numerous financial ties between U.S. regulators and the vaccine makers, and in some cases licensing agreements where the government is profiting from the vaccines that it promotes and defends against liability claims. Evidence of contamination by animal and human retroviruses in the live vaccines is handily swept under the rug by FDA, without actual study or requirements for fixing the problem. Industry estimates show that there are more than 200 vaccines in the development pipeline. In the middle of all this vaccine profit bonanza disguised as public health is the questionable research of people Poul Thorsen, contracted by the CDC and used to defend vaccine safety based on data from Denmark that has no relation to the U.S. reality. There is a suspicion among some that the CDC was full aware of Thorsen’s financial dealings, and that it would have gone on without a single question if Danish authorities had not uncovered the irregularities and filed charges against him. The U.S. was then compelled to act as if they were shocked — SHOCKED! — to discover such fraud. The former head of the CDC during this imbroglio is now the head of vaccines for Merck. Some believe that Thorsen may know certain things about the CDC’s research agenda that they would not like to come to light. That perhaps this knowledge made him feel emboldened to skim a little extra money off the top of the research funds, and also could be used by him to extricate himself from his present legal difficulties in Denmark. This is why there is interest here in the U.S. We are curious to see how the "cooperation" between U.S. authorities and Danish ones plays out. What documents might be presented in court and thereby put in the public record? Do not assume that the U.S. authorities are anxious to see Thorsen "punished" for his "crime".

Users called ‘AHiggins’ and ‘Garbo’ have put in the same comment here. I have deleted one of them.
